MRAi Foundational Report Highlights Collaborations

Making research related to Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside accessible requires a fine balance between community goals, research ethics, scholarly publishing systems, and much more.
This foundational report shows how the Making Research Accessible (MRAi) in the DTES initiative is making progress and building collaborations to do so.

For example, the Downtown Eastside Research Access Portal (DTES RAP now links to more than 1,700 items, including work published outside UBC and important work created by community researchers, organizations and community members.
The DTES RAP is an easy-to-use, public portal designed to improve access to academic research and research-related materials relevant to the Downtown Eastside. It is built on the existing infrastructure and follows the licensing workflow expertise of UBC’s open access digital repository, cIRcle.
This report highlights this and other examples of how the MRAi has been working collaboratively to support community goals, research impact, student learning, as well as scholarship.
The purpose of the report is to celebrate the progress so far, to sincerely thank our partners, and to recommit to the work. There’s a long way to go but, as we hope this report shows, change happens when we work and learn from each other.

The MRAi is a partnership between the UBC Learning Exchange and UBC Library’s Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, with input from the UBC Knowledge Exchange Unit, UBC’s iSchool, Simon Fraser University Library, the Vancouver Public Library, and in consultation with community members and organizations.
