Description

This research summary looked at a study of HIV-positive people who use illicit drugs (PWUD) and found that people often have HIV health problems even though effective HIV/AIDS treatment is available. This study looked at the effect of housing eviction on HIV/ AIDS treatment among PWUD. Between 2007 to 2014, we talked to 705 HIV-positive PWUD from the Downtown Eastside and Greater Vancouver. Every six months, we asked them if they had been recently evicted from their homes. We then looked at how housing eviction affected their ability to stay on their HIV/AIDS medication and their HIV viral load (level of HIV in the blood).
